Since, there are several different ideologies regarding the paranormal, there are multiple definitions for Electronic Voice Phenomena or EVP. This refers to the communicating with spirits through tapes and recordings. EVP has evolved with the evolution of technology, and is now referred to as Instrumental Trans Communication or ITC. ITC is used to describe the ways that we can communicate with those who have passed on using newer technologies such as cd players and video recorders.

EVP 101

Since, there are several different ideologies regarding the paranormal, there are multiple definitions for Electronic Voice Phenomena or EVP.   This refers to the communicating with spirits through tapes and recordings.  EVP has evolved with the evolution of technology, and is now referred to as Instrumental Trans Communication or ITC.  ITC is used to describe the ways that we can communicate with those who have passed on using newer technologies such as cd players and video recorders.

Many have tried to explain this phenomenon and the reasoning varies greatly between skeptics and those with open minds.  The skeptics believe that the voice recordings are simply white noise that is the subject of human perception and the desire to communicate with higher beings.  Yet, the most comprehensive theory among believers and others with an open mind would be the Survival Hypothesis.  The Survival Hypothesis holds that we are all spiritual beings who are able to exist in the physical world, due to our physical bodies.  Once we lose our physical bodies, our spirits remain, and often attempt to maintain contact.

If you want to get into EVP there are a few things that you will need to know and understand.  Although it is not necessary to have expensive recording equipment, there are a few devices that are preferred by those who have experience in EVP.  Cassette tape decks with external microphones and digital voice recorders, if they are used with a computer, are best at recording the voices and being able to analyze the sounds.  Headphones that cover your entire ears are not required, but best for eliminating background noise.

You should also understand what you are listening for.  The majority of recorded voices are often soft and low. They are typically short choppy words or phrases and last only a few seconds. A cadence or defined rhythm may also be apparent.

For those new to EVP, it may take some time to be able to distinguish actual voices from background noise.  In the EVP community there are three major classes of voices.  Get into the habit of keeping a log and announcing the external noises that may be heard on tape since they are in the background.

People experiment with Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) for different reasons; some are interested in the supernatural and paranormal, while others are seeking communication with a loved that has passed on.  Despite the reasoning EVP, is a positive way to reach and be reached by those not of this world.
