Though, in religion, the beings revolve around the thought of a supreme being, while the supernatural center on beings that are just not of this earth. Typically, the methods for communicating and seeking out these beings contrast greatly. Religious types communicate with their higher beings through prayer, but those who believe in the paranormal often try to communicate by more tangible means such as electronic voice phenomenon or EVP. Both feel these beings can be passed loved ones or other spirits that are not here to bring us any harm.
A key difference would be faith. Though, both groups believe in beings and spirits that are not of this earth. People with religious beliefs tend to believe that the beings exist, without searching for proof or evidence, and without needing to investigate. Yet, people with belief in the paranormal are more apt to trying to prove the existence
of supernatural beings.
Another similarity would be the ability to assign meaning to and try to explain extraordinary events and occurrences. There are often things that happen in every day life, that are hard to explain. Such as, a person getting well when all medical answers have failed; or, apparitions that appear in a picture. Belief in both religion and
paranormal activity seem to be able to provide an explanation when science fails.
However, paranormal beliefs typically do not require any specific rituals or traditions. Unlike religious beliefs that may compel believers to attend churches or other types of ceremonies.
Despite the contrasts and comparisons the overriding ability to take comfort in the idea of spirits and beings not of this world is central. Not placing stock in the materialisms, racisms, sexisms, and other types of human created negativity is quality that should be applauded. Though there will always be those who refuse to acknowledge either belief, holding fast to our various beliefs and convictions make us all unique and special.
